Nokia Lumia 800 Getting off to a Bright Start!

The Nokia Lumia 800 is the smartphone handset that has made the turn around for the aging and down and out Finnish mobile phone veteran possible. Nokia’s Lumia series of smartphone handsets has stuck the right notes in the UK mobile phone market place and elsewhere. More precisely, they have set the cash registers ringing across the globe. Finally, after probably nearly two years set of Nokia smartphones have found more than a reasonable amount of acceptability among the coveted and valued customers.

It is true. The Nokia Lumia 800 deals is the bigger cousin of the two smartphone handsets that have arrive so far, the other being the Nokia Lumia 710. The third smartphone in this impressive line up will be the all powerful Nokia Lumia 900 that is expected to touch base here within a couple of months from now.

Technically speaking, Nokia also seems to have found an adequate solution for its persisting and often teething concerns with the operating system, Symbian, Nokia, as all of us know, refused to abandon Symbian and continued with it despite there being irrefutable evidence that the said operating platform is not good enough to make its smartphones stand up to the competition in the market place.

Nokia entered into a tie up with Microsoft and the object of this association was the development of suitable enough operating software source for its various smartphone handsets. And with the latest from Microsoft, the Windows Phone 7.5 version of the operating system running the Nokia Lumia 800 and the few other smartphones in the series and more importantly getting the all important nod from the users across the globe, Nokia really could not have asked for anything more.

This latest edition of the Microsoft Windows Phone is called Mango and has been found adequately vibrant and robust when it comes to delivering the good. Be it multi tasking or endless downloading of applications or the seemingly simple but at the same time difficult task over time of being intuitive and getting the contact lists and messages all ready and immediately visible on the screen and back to the home page. Not to speak of the touch sensitiveness of the screen.
The Nokia Lumia 800 is, by the look of things, the beginning of a bright future for Nokia.

Motorola Fire Good Addition to the Mid-segment Range

Motorola Mobility, the handset developing wing of the USA-based mobile phone company is firing on all cylinders. It is giving the mobile phone world, higher-end smartphones, medium range phones and even budgets phones, all at one go. Well, one after the other to be more precise.

The Motorola Fire is yet another example of this aggressive approach adopted by Motorola. The Motorola Fire  undoubtedly falls under the mid-segment though nothing can be said with certainty as the prices are yet to be announced.

Slated for a late September, 2011 release in the UK market, the Motorola Fire among other things will have the Android 2.3 Gingerbread version of the operating system running it. Mobile phone retailers like Clove.com have already come forward and expressed their desire to start selling this phone handset commercially here. Motorola has decided to ignore its proprietary MotoBlur user interface and instead has come up with a new UI for the Motorola Fire.

The other attractions of the Motorola Fire include mainly its offering of battery life that guarantees a good 27 hour back up in the stand by mode. This undoubtedly is something that none of the other phone handsets in this price bracket promise.

Motorola has opted to toe the line adopted by the present line of `fusion’ phones that combine within themselves both the  full QWERTY and the touchscreen. The Fire has both the conventional key board as well as a 2.8 inches wide touch sensitive screen.

The handset also is fitted with a three mega pixel camera for good effect. Then, there is the 3G mobile internet connectivity too.

It is realistic to expect within the next month or so an initial set of Motorola Fire deals that covers the entire range – contracts, SIM free and pay as you go mobile phone deals – to surface in the market place.

All in all, the Motorola Fire does come across as a decent phone at a very affordable price.

Samsung Galaxy Tab ban-free all over Europe except Germany

The ban over the sale of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been lifted throughout the Europe excluding the Germany. This Android-powered tablet was banned after the Apple’s accusation that it is blatantly copied on the iPhone and iPad.

Albeit, the injunction hasn’t been completely suspended, as the patent dispute case is still pending, which Apple filed against Samsung in Germany after submitting evidence underscoring the similarities between the iPad and Samsung tab. Now, the next court hearing will be held on 25 August.

The ban imposed by the Düsseldorf court still prohibits the Samsung’s lederhosen situated German head office from selling the tab, but its South Korean head office is now not under this injunction and hence remaining European countries can buy the slate.

However, it’s still not clear, whether the allegedly doctored image of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 filed by Apple as evidence had made any impact on the lifting of this ban. But, it apparently indicates that preliminary injunction may fully reversed during the hearing next week.

Apple A6 chipset heading towards quad core with 3D technology by 2012’s Q2

With the launch of newer Apple gadgets, new chipsets are very likely to appear and details regarding Apple A6 System-on-Chip (SoC) have appeared online with no mentioning about the involvement of Samsung. In the past, A4 and A5 chips found in gadgets like iPhone 4, iPad and iPad 2 were developed by Samsung but the latest reports reveal that Samsung will not be involved in any means to build the next generation Apple chipset. The production of Apple A6 chipset has already begun, as stated by the Taiwan Economic News, but it’s for sure that Samsung is not undertaking any of the manufacturing responsibilities this time and the charge is now given to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.

The news of Samsung not involved in making the new chipset is not really surprising due to the fact that Apple has banned the sale of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Europe, UK and the US. That’s not all. Apple even wants to put a ban on all Samsung phones claimed to copy its design patents. If that really happens, it will bring out bad news to both consumers and Samsung as both Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been popular among users, especially Galaxy S2 smart phone. The reports date back to June when Apple dumped Samsung followed by the patent disputes and the result can now be seen in the involvement of TSMC for producing the next generation A6 processor.

The first lot of Apple gadgets shipping the new A6 chipset is expected to land by the second quarter of 2012 which simply means that iPhone 5 will not be featuring the new chip and it will be sufficed by iPad 2’s A5 SoC. As per the reports from Taiwan Economic News, TSMC has applied the new 28-nanometer process and 3D stacking technologies to manufacture the A6 processor based on ARM architecture. It will even undergo silicon inter poser and bump on trace (BOT) methodologies while undergoing development process at TSMC. It definitely leads to an interesting future development with the expectation of a completely new Apple device in 2012 on one hand and inclusion of multiple cores and even 3D functionality on the other. An upgrade worth waiting for will be iPhone 6 handset which will be 3D enabled and quad-core powered…sounds enticing, isn’t it???
